Demographics of Tierrasanta

A geographically isolated community on the hill, with over 37,000 residents and 7,189 over the age of 50, Tierrasanta is a suburban bedroom community covering 11 square miles only 20 minutes from downtown San Diego.

It is situated like an island, not directly bordered by another community. It is encircled by Freeways 52 and 15, MCAS Miramar, the 5,800 acre Mission Trails Regional Park, and steep canyons overlooking the San Diego River and Mission Valley.

The natural open space and military legacy of the community are factors which impact the community. Although some residents are transplants from other states, once they move to Tierrasanta they “nestle” here and so many are long term residents in this quiet, comfortable, safe and peaceful area with many views from its ridges.

Tierrasanta has attracted a range of individuals with 44% high school graduates and 52% with college and graduate degrees. Major fields of employment are education, health, professional and retail/wholesale.

The ethnic profile of the community is comprised of 69% white; 6% black; 10% Asian and 16% Hispanic. The median annual income is $59,164 with 4% 15,000 or lower; 8% 15,000 – 29,000; 29% 30,000 – 59,000; 32% 60,000 – 99,000 and 28% 100,000 +.
